COMMON X-CHANGE TEAMS

Would you like to work closely with a practicing scientist in your classroom?  Do you want to collaborate with another teacher in your building who shares your teaching goals?  Common X-Change is a short-term, classroom-based partnership between scientists and teachers.  Two teachers from the same school, but potentially different grade levels, and two scientists will co-plan and co-teach four classroom lessons to enrich and support student learning in science.  Teachers and scientists will be partnered based on common science interests and learning goals for students.  The Common X-Change partner orientation will bring teams together for their first planning meeting to establish common goals, plan classroom lessons, and schedule the series of lessons.  At the culmination of the partnership, teams from the different school sites will come together to share their lessons, student work, and celebrate the partnership.

•    Two teachers partnered with two scientists = a team, (about 40 teachers)
•    Classroom-based partnership based on a proposed plan from the teachers
•    Scientists co-teaching in your classroom;
•    Spans 6-7 weeks in spring semester
•    Commitment = orientation + independent planning + four classroom lessons + debriefing
•    Funds available for classroom materials; teachers and scientists volunteer their time
•    February – April, 2008
Watch for announcements coming out in early January.
