CATALYST SUMMER INSTITUTE (CSI) The Catalyst Summer Institutes are designed to provide SPPS teachers of science an in-depth immersion experience into selected topics integrating content and pedagogy. CSI courses are team taught by a scientist and SPPS master teacher. Participants have the chance to deepen their knowledge of science, participate in extended adult level investigations and expand their knowledge of science teaching strategies. THE 2008 CSI COHORTS ARE:
*note: the Insect Ecology and Environments cohorts are offered in connection with UMN Monarch Lab but you will receive added benefits if you register through CSI! See Course Descriptions for more information about each course. ANY TEACHER CAN APPLY FOR ANY COHORT The cohort grade levels listed only indicate the concepts are found at this grade level within the SPPS Elementary Science Frameworks . All learning is at an adult level and can apply to any grade level for understanding process and content. Commitment: In order to be eligible you must be able to attend and participate in the following:
June 16-20; 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, for all one-week cohorts
Incentives: Each teacher has the option of stipends, graduate credit and/or in-service credit. The Elementary Catalyst Summer Institute can be taken as a UMN course for two graduate credits. Team Application: We encourage school teams including any combination of teachers in the

a way to build a support team at your school for science learning and
teaching. Your team members can sign-up for the same or different
cohorts. Xtra Incentive for School Teams of 3: The
first 12 schools that get a three person team going to CSI will be
eligible for a digital camera or the equivalent value in a science
