Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts K-12 REVISED Find the new standards at the bottom of this page. The Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts focus on student achievement in five arts areas: visual arts, media arts, dance, music, and theatre. Educators often integrate other content areas with the arts to reach and engage children and young adults who learn through multiple learning styles and demonstrate their learning through performance and other artistic forms. The arts standards were revised in by a citizen-committee comprised of K-12 teachers, parents, postsecondary faculty, business representatives and others. Expertise among the members spanned the arts areas of dance, media arts, music, theater and visual arts. The revised standards proposed by the committee are currently proceeding through the administrative rulemaking process. If adopted into rule, the revised state standards would be implemented by the 2010-11 school year for those districts that use state standards. Saint Paul Public Schools is using the New Revised Minnesota State Academic Standards (3/4/09) which are based on National Arts Standards. The District is currently writing curriculum and assessments in alignment with the revised standards.
