Dr.
Doug Reeves, and The Leadership and Learning Center (LLC), has been partnering
with the Saint Paul Public secondary schools during the 2009-2010 school year to
help accelerate the secondary curriculum that teachers have been accomplishing in the past few year. In the arts, this work compliments and marries with our curriculum mapping work that we began last year with the Perpich Center for Arts Education.
August and September 2009
Principals
and teams of teachers from each school have been participating in
training facilitated by the LLC throughout the school year. In the arts, several visual and performing arts teachers, Perpich staff and
consultants, two Gifted and Talented staff and the supervisor for visual
and performing arts met for two days in August and three days in
September to learn about power standards, unwrapping standards,
essential questions and big ideas. During our time together we
followed a rigorous process to power MN State Academic Standards in the Arts at
the secondary level. The powered standards are below for grades 7-12. Elementary standards are also below and they are not powered yet. This work will be continued with elementary teachers in 2010-2011.
