Minnesota State Geographers' Fair

Every year K-8 students bring individual, small group, or whole class projects to the State Geographers’ Fair. This year’s event was held on Saturday, February 10 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. The Fair is in its 20th year, sponsored by the Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education (MAGE) and hosted by the Science Museum of Minnesota.

Participation provides teachers and students with opportunities to share what they have learned and to gain a better understanding and appreciation for geography and the nature of our world. Any project with a geographic subject matter is welcome. Students develop their projects into dioramas, graphs and charts, electrically wired answer boards, models and maps, video presentations and much more. Each school is given a display table and assigned a judging time. Geographers evaluate the student projects, questioning the students about their display and emphasizing the strengths they notice.

Eleven schools participated this year – five of them were Saint Paul Public Schools! Students and teachers from EXPO for Excellence Magnet School, Four Seasons A+ Elementary School, Hancock Magnet School, Hayden Heights Elementary School, and Highland Park Elementary School proudly represented our district.
