Honors Concert and Performance Art 2012
THIS YEAR'S HONORS CONCERT WILL TAKE PLACE APRIL 24, 2012
The mission of the Honors events is to provide skilled, creative and talented young artists in Saint Paul Public Schools with a professionally produced Concert, Performance, and Visual Art Exhibition.
On Tuesday, April 24, Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS), Ordway Center for the Performing Arts and the College of Visual Arts will showcase the artistic talents and skills of more than 450 students in the 21
th
annual Honors Concert, Performance Art and Art Exhibition.
The Honors Concert and Performance Art event, featuring senior high students, begins at 7 p.m. in the Ordway Music Theater. Elementary and middle school World Party students will perform at 6:00 p.m. in the Marzitelli Foyer.
T. Mychael Rambo is this year’s Master of Ceremonies. and he will introduce the concert featuring instrumental and vocal performances conducted by Jerry Luckhardt (band), Claudette Laureano (orchestra) and Angela Broeker (choir), as well as spoken word poetry performed by students working under the direction of performer and teaching artist Tou Ger Xiong. The event will also include a projected slideshow of the student visual art images that will be shown at the Honors Art Exhibition.
Complementing the musical performances will be an exhibition of student artwork hosted by the College of Visual Arts (CVA) in May. It will feature the visual artists’ creations selected from original paintings, drawings, photographs, beadwork, ceramics and other works submitted by SPPS visual art teachers. The exhibition opens with a reception on Thursday, May 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. and runs through June 2at the CVA Gallery, 173 Western Avenue in Saint Paul.
