Follow-up related to Kevin Murphy’s presentation
There is a special collection in the U of MN Library system that might be of interest to teachers. The Tretter Collection in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Studies houses over 30,000 items in a wide variety of media. The collection is international in scope and covers all time periods (from ancient Egypt up to the present day). We talked quite a bit about the protest at the 1968 Miss America pageant. Teachers might be interested in a documentary that offers tv footage of and commentary on this protest. I've used the documentary in my intro US history and US women's history classes, and it's a perfect audio-visual accompaniment to the information and documents provided by Professor Evans. The film is a PBS American Experience program titled "Miss America." It's available for purchase through the PBS Web site, and plenty of free information, teacher's guides, and clips are available at
