READ
180 is a reading intervention program for below level and struggling
readers. The program combines the use of three types of reading
software, a high-interest
lexile-leveled library of paperbacks and audio books, and small group
lessons. Students rotate through the three stations and have whole
group instruction every day.
As
part of a district initiative to increase students reading ability,
READ 180 was implemented in the middle schools and high schools. Each
school received sixty READ 180 and SRI licenses, five copies each of
forty paperbacks that are separated into four lexile levels, four
copies each of twelve audiobooks, and a teacher resource kit. Training
and support for each teacher was provided. READ 180 is also used
in one district elementary school.
