Program Description

The 7-12 English/Language Arts Program(ELA) in the Saint Paul Public Schools consists of courses that allow students to meet or exceed Minnesota Academic Standards in English, prepares them for the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA II), and gives them the tools to be successful in any post secondary studies they choose.  An ongoing process in the English/language arts curriculum in St. Paul Public Schools is 7-12 articulation in standards, texts, and curriculum. This process began in 2003 with the introduction of Disciplinary Literacy (DL) into the middle school curriculum. By the end of 2007, all middle school ELA teachers were trained in the instructional methods of DL and most were implementing or planning to implement the district ELA curriculum in their classes. Continued articulation has continued with the introduction of DL in the high schools during the spring of 2008.
